When veterinarians from the Animal and Wildlife Area Research and Rehabilitation Trust (AWARE), a wildlife conservation organization in Zimbabwe, arrived at Mana Pools National Park after receiving word about the ɪɴᴊᴜʀᴇᴅ elephant, Pretty Boy was quick to ask for the assistance he needed without the vets having to seek him out themselves.

The ᴘᴏᴏʀ animal must have ʀᴇᴍᴀɪɴᴇᴅ in so much ᴘᴀɪɴ that he immediately placed all his trust in the doctors, hoping they could make him feel better.
Incredibly, despite having a ʙᴜʟʟᴇᴛ lodged in his ʜᴇᴀᴅ, the brave elephant could still walk up to doctors and show them the issue.
Doctors jumped straight into the action to try and save Pretty Boy– but with him being such a large animal, it would be hard work!
The first step was to ᴛʀᴀɴǫᴜɪʟɪᴢᴇ him with a little ᴅᴀʀᴛ, making the elephant feel calm and relaxed. The doctors could after that reach work.
Although it was pretty clear what had happened, the team needed to know whereabouts the ʙᴜʟʟᴇᴛ had lodged into Pretty Boy’s ʜᴇᴀᴅ, so they carried out a quick x-ʀᴀʏ.
Pretty Boy Has Some Time To Heal; Now He Has A ꜰɪɢʜᴛɪɴɢ Chance.
They instantly found the ᴅᴇꜰᴏʀᴍᴇᴅ ʙᴜʟʟᴇᴛ in the elephant’s sᴋᴜʟʟ and recognized something amazing.
The vets thought Pretty Boy was sᴛʀᴜᴄᴋ only a couple of centimeters too high of a ‘ᴋɪʟʟ sʜᴏᴛ’ by a ʜᴜɴᴛᴇʀ. Had the sʜᴏᴛ been slightly lower, he would have been ᴋɪʟʟᴇᴅ instantly.
While he was still ᴛʀᴀɴǫᴜɪʟɪᴢᴇᴅ, the veterinarians performed sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ on the lucky elephant to ʀᴇᴍᴏᴠᴇ the ʙᴜʟʟᴇᴛ.
Once they were completed, they waited till Pretty Boy got up again to ensure he was doing okay after the sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ. But the elephant was still quite ᴇxʜᴀᴜsᴛᴇᴅ, and he had only made it many actions before he fell asleep looking quite ᴄᴏᴍɪᴄᴀʟ with his ᴛʀᴜɴᴋ ᴀɢᴀɪɴsᴛ a tree.
The incident sparked a lot of attention and admiration for the elephant and the people who came to its aid.
