It’s a heartbreaking reality that animal ᴀʙᴜsᴇ is still prevalent today. However, there are glimmers of hope when stories emerge of animals that have overcome the ᴡᴏʀsᴛ of sɪᴛᴜᴀᴛɪᴏɴs and have found their way to a second chance at ʟɪꜰᴇ.
Violet Wanted To Be A Good Dog So Her Family Would Love Her
But despite her loving heart and sweet personality, Violet’s family ᴏᴘᴘʀᴇssᴇᴅ her without regard for her safety, well-being, or feelings.
Pᴏᴏʀ Violet received nothing but ɴᴇɢʟᴇᴄᴛ; her family eventually ʀᴇᴊᴇᴄᴛᴇᴅ her.
They put her in their car, drove down a road in Clinton, Maryland, and ᴘᴜsʜᴇᴅ the ᴛᴇʀʀɪꜰɪᴇᴅ ᴍᴀsᴛɪꜰꜰ out the car window.
A stranger traveling down Clinton Road was sʜᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ to see a large dog ꜰʟᴜɴɢ out through a car’s window like an empty soda cup.
They immediately stopped and rushed to help Violet, who was brought to Prince George’s County Animal Control.
The ᴘᴏᴏʀ, ᴀʙᴜsᴇᴅ Pup!
After being taken in by animal control, Violet was handed over to Mutts Matter Rescue, who wanted to do everything they could to help people experiencing ᴘᴏᴠᴇʀᴛʏ ᴀʙᴜsᴇᴅ pups.
Because not only had Violet been ᴅᴜᴍᴘᴇᴅ from a car, but she was also sᴋɪɴɴʏ and sᴛᴀʀᴠᴇᴅ for a long time.
Violet was placed in the care of Mutts Matter Rescue volunteer Debbie Gretz, who had previously worked with ᴀʙᴜsᴇᴅ and ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀᴏᴜsʟʏ ᴜɴᴅᴇʀᴡᴇɪɢʜᴛ dogs.
Gretz’s heart ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ for Violet, and she couldn’t help but start crying when she met the ᴘᴏᴏʀ pup for the first time and saw her ᴛᴇʀʀɪʙʟᴇ condition.
Gretz knew she had helped this pup reclaim her ʟɪꜰᴇ and give her the love and care she’d lacked for so long.
So much of the ᴘᴏᴏʀ pup’s ʟɪꜰᴇ and ᴅɪɢɴɪᴛʏ had been sᴛᴏʟᴇɴ from her, but Gretz was determined to ensure she’d at least get a bright and happy future.
She Quickly Grew To Adore Gretz
Violet was sᴇᴠᴇʀᴇʟʏ ᴇᴍᴀᴄɪᴀᴛᴇᴅ, only weighed about 60 pounds, and was covered in ɴᴀsᴛʏ ᴘʀᴇssᴜʀᴇ sᴏʀᴇs, which had to be cleaned and ʙᴀɴᴅᴀɢᴇᴅ.
When Gretz hugged her, she could feel every ʙᴏɴᴇ in the ᴘᴏᴏʀ mastiff’s ʙᴏᴅʏ, and her ʙʟᴏᴏᴅᴡᴏʀᴋ showed the usual ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs that follow sᴛᴀʀᴠᴀᴛɪᴏɴ.
Violet’s ᴘʀᴇssᴜʀᴇ sᴏʀᴇs were assumed to be due to spending a significant amount of time ᴄʜᴀɪɴᴇᴅ up, and her rescuers have theorized that she’s been kept ʟᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ up and used for ʙʀᴇᴇᴅɪɴɢ.
But despite all the ᴛʀᴀᴜᴍᴀ she’d sᴜꜰꜰᴇʀᴇᴅ through, Violet hadn’t lost her faith in humanity.
She quickly grew to adore Gretz and would regularly come and rest her head on Gretz’s lap to show her love and gratitude.
Gretz fed Violet five small meals daily, and grew healthier and more robust.
She learned how to walk up the stairs independently and gained enough energy to go on walks and play with her friends.
Her ᴘʀᴇssᴜʀᴇ sᴏʀᴇs healed nicely, and her weight increased.
After a few months, Violet looked transformed entirely. She’d gone from weighing a sʜᴏᴄᴋɪɴɢ 60 pounds to a beautiful 138 pounds, glowing with happiness.

The road to recovery was long and not without struggle, but thanks to Gretz’s love and hard work, Violet could thrive.
And Gretz didn’t just help her recover physically. She gave Violet all the affection and security she’d never gotten but had always craved and deserved.
Thanks to Gretz, Violet has gone from a sᴄᴀʀᴇᴅ and heartbroken sᴋᴇʟᴇᴛᴀʟ shell of a dog to a bright, loving, and happy pup who loves her ʟɪꜰᴇ and her family and has everything she needs to be safe and healthy.
The beautiful, affectionate pup has gotten a second chance at life, and she is savoring every moment of it.
