Meet The Monkey ‘With A Human Face’: A 19-Year-Old Primate That Looks Like A Distressed Man ‘Hopes To Find A Wife’

Animals with human-like features have long fascinated people worldwide, from legendary creatures like mermaids and centaurs to more grounded examples like dogs with human-like expressions. A 19-year-old primate in southern China has recently garnered attention for his strikingly human-like face. Dubbed the “monkey with a human face,” the macaque has become a local celebrity, drawing crowds of curious onlookers to the park where he resides.

At first glance, the primate’s face looks uncannily like a human’s. His eyes, nose, and mouth are arranged eerily familiarly, and his expressions often seem to mirror those around him. To some, this may seem like a wonder of nature, while to others, it may be unsettling.

The Tianjin Zoo in eastern China hopes to play matchmaker for the 19-year-old primate, who is said to have been a ‘bachelor’ all his life.

The monkey sent the internet into a frenzy last year after being photographed sporting looks on his face similar to those of a distressed man.

The zoo said the unnamed animal wasn’t paired up mainly due to a lack of female primates. ‘He is very active and ᴀɢɢʀᴇssɪᴠᴇ. He likes playing with mud and smashing coconuts,’ the spokesperson said.

The monkey was brought into the zoo in 2002. He previously had two female companions, but both ᴅɪᴇᴅ, and he went on to play with monkeys of other sub-species in the enclosure.

According to experts, the primate’s unique appearance is likely due to a genetic mutation, resulting in his unusually human-like features. While it may be tempting to anthropomorphize the primate and see him as more like a person than an animal, it’s important to remember that he is still a wild animal and should be treated as such.

Despite his unusual appearance, the primate’s quality of life is reportedly no different from other macaques in the park. He is provided with food, water, and a safe environment. Still, he is not ᴄᴀɢᴇᴅ or ɪsᴏʟᴀᴛᴇᴅ from other animals.

The primate’s human-like features may serve as a reminder of the close evolutionary link between humans and other primates and the importance of protecting these animals and their habitats. Whether viewed as a wonder of nature or a curiosity, the “monkey with a human face” is a unique and intriguing creature that reminds us of the diversity and wonder of the natural world.
