A huge 6ft mastiff dog the size of a human who has been in a rescue centre for most of his life has finally found a forever home. The 60kg pup called Basher has always struggled to find an owner because of his massive size. Two-year-old Basher was rescued as a small stray in January 2020 – but quickly grew to be an impressive 6ft when standing on his hind legs.
When he arrived at RSPCA Cornwall in 2021 as a transfer from another shelter, rescuers were intent on finding the gentle giant a permanent home. It was clear to rescue staff that Basher wasn’t scary. In fact, he was a big softy.
His rescuers had said of Basher: “He is a big, strong lad who will require strong owners as he can get a bit excited when he sees birds.”
Unfortunately, this isn’t Bashers first time in a rehoming center and we are hoping we can do our best to find him his perfect forever home with support form our behaviorist.
“It’s always heartbreaking to see the number of animals waiting in rescue shelters, but Basher was especially difficult because we all had such a strong attachment to him and we just wanted the best for him,” Howard said. “As the months went on, though, we never lost hope that there was someone out there for him.”
Finally, 448 days after he arrived, Basher found his perfect fit, and the RSPCA Cornwall staff were overjoyed.
SPCA tweeted: “We said the fondest of farewells to our big boy Basher recently as he’s set off for his new home.
“We’re so grateful to Basher’s owner for taking him on, we know you’ll be so happy together.”
