In the age of the internet, anything can go viral. And that includes the story of a ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ dog who turned out to be a wolf. It sounds like the plot of a Hollywood movie, but it happened in real life.
This ‘dog’ went from an ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ puppy to an internet sensation. Meet Yuki – a huge wolf-dog!
It all started when the enormous eight-month-old puppy was abandoned. While his original owner faced health issues, he punched Yuki in a shelter, as taking care of him would have been too much for him to handle. Fortunately for Yuki, the Shy Wolf Sanctuary in Naples, Florida, rushed to help him.
“We rescued him from a failed house pet situation. Someone purchased him from a breeder and realized he was too much to handle,” sanctuary volunteer Brittany Allen told Bored Panda. “They ᴅᴜᴍᴘᴇᴅ him at a shelter at eight months old. We stepped in and provided a home for him, and he has been with us ever since.”
As he continued to grow larger, they realized something was strange, so they tried to find an explanation. According to Yahoo News, “the DNA test revealed that Yuki was, in fact, more wolf than a dog – with results showing he was made up of 87.5% Gray Wolf, 8.6% Siberian Husky, and 3.9% German Shepherd.”
The news of the Yuki quickly spread online, and the story went viral once again. People were amazed that a wolf had been mistaken for a dog and was so friendly and approachable.
Recently, the woman who took care of Yuki all these years, Brit Allen, shared some photos of her and the giant creature that went viral, generating a wide range of reactions on social media.
“Why does he look much more ᴛᴇʀʀɪꜰʏɪɴɢ than a full-ʙʟᴏᴏᴅᴇᴅ wolf?” one Instagram user asked.
“He’s so beautiful,” someone wrote. While another user wrote, “Run while you still have a chance.”
However, many people claim the images are photoshopped. But Allen says maybe some photos are a little misleading: “The face we make when people say Yuki’s picture is Photoshopped,” she wrote in a caption. “It’s just his fat angle, guys. We all have one.”
Although he’s in a shelter, Yuki is not available for adoption as he’s been diagnosed with a ᴅɪsᴇᴀsᴇ. “Yuki has been ꜰɪɢʜᴛɪɴɢ for quite a while now and is persevering, so it is business as usual while we enjoy our time with Yuki,” sanctuary director Jeremy Albrecht said. “When the day comes that he starts showing sʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍs, we will, as we always do, make the right decisions for Yuki’s quality of life.”
The wolf was eventually transferred to a wildlife sanctuary, where it could live among other wolves and receive proper care. Its story, however, continued to capture the imagination of people worldwide. The tale of the Yuki dog, who turned out to be a wolf, became a symbol of hope and resilience, showing that even in the darkest places, there is always the possibility of finding something beautiful and unexpected.
