Despite the differences, a black Belgian mare recently gave birth to two adorable black ponies. Tiny twins named Lisa and Fien were born healthy and happy.
In the posted video, Fien and Lisa can be seen happily playing next to their mother when they were only four days old. They are full of life and joy as they play in the meadows with their mothers.
This Belgian horse is about 16.2-17 arm spans tall and weighs almost 1 ton. They are one of the giant horse breeds in the world. The largest horse in the world is also a Belgian draft horse named Big Jake, with more than 20 arm spans, tall and weighing 1,134 kg.
Belgian draft horses are one of the world’s most popular draft horse breeds; they have large, solid bodies and gentle temperaments, making them great horses to work with.
The Belgian draft horse is a popular breed for logging, plowing, and pulling work in Europe and America. The Belgian draft horse was officially bred in Belgium in the 17th century. The breed then came to America in the late 1800s. The breed soon followed and quickly became a popular choice among farmers.
However, this is not the only case of twins recorded in horses. Before that, a horse named Destiny of GFS Sporthorses gave birth to twins twice. After giving birth to their first twins in 2018, GFS Shockwave and GFS Aftershock, Destiny shocked the world in February of this year with the advent of their second twins, Pesky and Peakaboo.
The rate of first twins for horses is only about 1 in 10,000. However, the rate of giving birth to second twins is 1 in 1,000,000, so this case is unique worldwide—our planet.
Equine twins usually have a meager sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴀʟ rate; they typically ᴅɪᴇ in the womb or from ʀᴇsᴘɪʀᴀᴛᴏʀʏ ғᴀɪʟᴜʀᴇ due to difficult ʙɪʀᴛʜ. In addition, in many cases, when a breeder learns his horse is carrying twins, the embryos are ᴀʙᴏʀᴛᴇᴅ, as there is a greater risk of the foal and the mother ᴅʏɪɴɢ during or shortly after.
Destiny’s first set of twins were ponies that were identical in both size and color, and the second pair were slightly different, with a large one and a small one. In fact, throughout the pregnancy, Destiny showed no signs of being pregnant with twins, which made its owner not intervene and also feel extremely surprised when it gave birth to twins for the second time.
